In British Columbia, Canada, Barkerville served as the centre of the Cariboo Gold Rush and has been preserved as a historic settlement. It is situated 80 kilometres (50 miles) east of Quesnel on the Cariboo Plateau's northern slope, close to the Cariboo Mountains. It is traversed by BC Highway 26, which follows the path of the original entrance to Barkerville, the Cariboo Wagon Road.
